*New Projects!* Capitol Hill revisited

Remember this post from Summer 2012? I promised pictures from the finished product and I have a few!

The project in Capitol Hill turned out great. A wonderful client, terrific installers (thanks to XtraCare Landscaping in Rockville, MD and Expert Fence in Alexandria, VA) made for a smooth installation and a beautiful finished product.

The back yard before construction. This “outdoor room” wasn’t working for anyone. It was in need of organization, increased privacy and built-in flexibility.Capitol Hill Garden before--back yard and deck before construction

The proposed design included a new patio, water feature and seat wall as well as custom-built lattice screening from the upper level alleyway and for the storage areas under the deck.

The seat wall adds vertical interest and provides a boost for the Crape Myrtle tree we planted. The tree will produce masses of brilliant flowers in the summer and will screen the back yard from the neighboring alleyway. Crape Myrtles have firey Fall color to extend the season of interest. The seat wall provides flexibility for outdoor entertaining, allowing extra seating.Capitol Hill Garden after--detail of seat wall and custom built lattice screen

Detail of the Pennsylvania Flagstone patio during construction. The random rectangular pattern and narrow mortar joints make the space feel larger. The inlaid detail design adds a visual textural interest.Capitol Hill Garden--detail of Pennsylvania Flagstone patio during construction

It was a great project and again I thank everyone involved. More pictures to come of the plantings and the lovely water feature!
