This stately home in a classic Arlington, VA neighborhood of towering mature trees had a serious drainage problem to solve. The client and their neighbor collaborated on a shared planting and hardscape design to manage water flow through their yards and into the natural stream below. Many native plants were used in the planting design to create a varied palette of color throughout the year. The species were chosen to be appropriate for the setting, which is often wet but dries out in the heat of the summer. High deer pressure was another hurdle. The results are lush, colorful, and low maintenance.
